Where Your Money Goes

Participating in this SBTS event is more than just riding your bike and having a good time; it's helping create some of the best trails in America while helping communities in the Lost Sierra thrive, keeping the dream of wholesome mountain living alive and well.

The Lost and Found supports the The Lost Sierra Route part of the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship's Connected Communities Project.  By raising donations to build the The Lost Sierra Route, you will help a region recover from devastating wildfires and economic hardship through the creation of this 600+ mile multiuse trail. The Route will connect 15 mountain communities to promote economic prosperity through recreation - a $887 billion industry - and create new jobs in the Lost Sierra region.

Thanks for your continued support and participation, and see you trailside!

Lost Sierra Route Progress Map

Watch "A Trail for Everyone" a short film about Connected Communities, the proposed “Lost Sierra Route” and the positive impact of linking 15 California mountain communities through trails. Funds raised by the Lost and Found support this project.

I’m incredibly grateful that this scholarship exists to help diversify cycling, especially gravel cycling. As a kid, a bike to me was a way to get around my neighborhood and connect with my community. Until recently, I had never envisioned it to be a means to explore mountain trails, alpine lakes, and so much more. Diversifying cycling is critical to breaking down barriers that have kept marginalized groups out of a sport that has so much to offer. It also allows for new perspectives that can only make cycling better and more accessible for all people. — Thien Chau of Oakland, CA

Winning a Trail Trust and Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship Scholarship feels very humbling and exciting. It means a great deal to me, as a queer woman, to be supported and seen by the bike industry. I think it is important that we continue to diversify the cycling industry so that we can take this amazing sport, hobby, form of transport, etc., and make it more accessible and palatable to those who might not see themselves represented. — Clara Nilsen of Reno, NV

Massive thank you to our longtime sponsor Fox and its Trail Trust foundation for their commitment to diversifying cycling by helping to bring more folks from underrepresented communities into gravel racing.

The Lost & Found Mike Shaw Memorial Scholarship

To honor the passing of Mike Shaw in 2018, the SBTS is offering a scholarship entry for a young rider to participate in the challenging longest course of the Lost and Found gravel grinder.  The scholarship will be awarded based on the following criteria created in collaboration with his widow;

  • Must be under the age of 23 years old.
  • Submit a short essay (<350 words) or video: ‘What have you done to encourage multi-use trails and trail access in your region?’
  • Be physically fit and prepared for a challenging gravel ride in a remote location.

Entries must be submitted by May 10th. The winner will be decided based on content and writing style, and announced on May 20.

We look forward to hearing what you’ve all been doing to support youth riding in your local communities and beyond!!

Send your entries to Kyle Stone: stone@sierratrails.org
